I feel really bad for the sea lion that Seaworld forces to approach his/her natural predator.
Is it bad that I’m laughing extremely hard at how the orca just annihilates the sea lon in the 2nd gif?
all I can hear is NYOOM
You wanna know something cool? Recent studies of orcas seem to show that during the seal breeding season, they knowingly limit their intake of seals. In fact, there are documented cases of orcas gently grabbing seal pups and pulling them into shore to keep them safe from being eaten.
Why? You might wonder.
The case studies seem to say that the orcas know that no baby seals growing up means less seals next year. They are so intelligent that they’re aware of their own impact as a predatory species on their prey and actively work to conserve the number of that prey species for the future. Maybe we could learn something about moderation and conservation from these animals.
I’m telling you, orcas are smarter than us. And yet some people see no problem in treating them like circus clowns.
reason #710 why I love whales
Orcas are actually the largest species of dolphin in the world. They were originally called “whale killers” by Spanish explorers and it got mixed up over time to “killer whale”
They’re literally raising another creature for slaughter and you’re saying how cool it is
well this IS the site that thinks murder is funny/ok so
To the comment about slaughter:
Human beings actually raise animals for slaughter. They breed them, put them in pens, wait until theyre old enough, then kill them. THIS is “literally” raising animals for slaughter.
Orcas dont raise animals for slaughter. Orcas are aware that they need to not over eat and kill all their prey. This is…good practice. This IS amazing. This demonstrates INCREDIBLE intelligence.
And its most definitely not “literally” raising animals for slaughter. If anything, its practically conservation. Its way closer to humans putting up restrictions to prevent overfishing, so that we do not wipe out our food and source of income.
Orcas do not have the same concept of morality that humans do. We can. Not. Apply. Our. Morality. To. Animals. They develop very differently than we do, they live very differently than we do, they have to kill to survive. This is a FACT. If they do not kill, and if there is no prey. They will die. Most humans do not have to kill, even if they do eat meat. Someone else does it for them. So its easy for humans to look at this and see Orcas as mean, as killers, see this as slaughter.
The Orcas are surviving. Orcas are primarily carnivorous. Orcas are doing what they have to do to survive, and the reason they are here, is because of the intelligence that they possess.
Orcas may be intelligent and emotional but just because they are developed in one way does not mean they have developed similarly to us in another.
Ensuring that there is enough food for themselves to eat is ensuring their SURVIVAL. This is a drive that is in all creatures. And the fact that they are AWARE of this is INCREDIBLY amazing information because it demonstrates a level of intelligence in nonhumans that is extremely rare. And cements that these are creatures who have a society, who learn, who observe, and who have culture, and practices. They restrain themselves and have LONG TERM AWARENESS. And they IMPLEMENT this to ensure not only the survival of THEIR species, but their prey as well. Not to mention the fact that predators help control and maintain their prey species by removing the sick, the slow. This is how evolution works. This is the very reason that you and I are sitting at our computers typing with intelligent, evolved brains.
THAT IS A BIG DEAL.
And yes, its very very fucking cool. We SHOULD find this interesting. This IS incredible because for so long we thought we were the only ones capable of this kind of thought.
Media likes to paint Orcas as villains.
Animals aren’t villains. Tv likes to create drama for ratings. Orcas are a god damn gem, what they represent is amazing. What they DO is amazing, whether you feel sorry for the seal or not. Thats the way nature works. Thats the way survival works. And so long as there is animal life on this planet, that is not going to change.
Re-blogging for this comment
I think the only time i will ever reblog this post that haunts my activity feed with a fucking vengence but i digress since this comment needs to be seen by people who follow me.
Incredible provocative works from Paul Fryer sculpture
Contemporary artist, Paul Fryer’s work challenges our conceptions of religion and authority, presenting incredibly “human” angels and demons, but it also goes far beyond this. His new conceptual work challenges the scientific theories of our universe itself, addressing the origins of mankind and the forces of nature. The enigmatic British art school dropout uses many different materials from the very old medium of wax and human hair, to raw electricity when projected into the space transforms into lightening.
REALLY just wanna take this chance to remind the people who follow me to not kill/trap opossums if they’re in your yard, and do not call animal control! Seriously.
- Opossums are literally 100% BIOLOGICALLY INCAPABLE of carrying rabies. Their body temperature is too cool to incubate it properly.
- Opossums are actually quite gentle and NOCTURNAL, so if they’re roaming, they’ve probably gotten lost, been injured, and are looking for a place to hide.
- Young opossums tend to try to climb into garbage cans when they’re starving. This is because THEY ARE LITERALLY STARVING. Don’t fucking shoot them or hit them with things because you wanna be some fucking macho top-of-the-food-chain cocksucker.
- Mama possums are amazing mothers and if you encounter an “aggressive” opossum, it’s probably because she’s got babies hanging off her nipple and she’s freaking out. They’re clumsy. Sometimes they don’t hear you coming and you catch each other off guard.
- Wanna lure an opossum off of your property? You can set up a box with some greens and cat kibble in it, hide it well, and lure them out that way. They’re actually quite harmless and keep other predators away. they eat lotsa gross stuff.
- Opossum mamas who get hit by cars often still have their helpless babies attached to them. Possums get a bad rep and people say they are “the dumbest animal”, but they are incredible creatures who have been around since the days of fucking dinosaurs so treat them well, okay?

Happy 258th Birthday Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (January 27, 1758- December 5, 1791).
I cannot write Poetically; I am not a Poet. I cannot arrange my words so artfully that they reflect shadow and light; I am not a painter. I cannot even express my feelings and thoughts through gestures and Pantomimes; I am not a dancer. But I can do it with the sounds of music; I am a Musikus. - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
